Could my phone be hurting my eyes and vision?

You probably have a digital device – you are using one now! Just how exposed are your eyes to these digital gadgets?

The world is basically more digital now than ever before, with more and more tasks that were done in real time being done via these devices. More hours in the day are spent using/looking at these digital screens. the children are not left out of this development – social media, games, class work is done more now using these devices. However, studies show that the more  time spent on these screen/the more exposure the eyes have to these screens, the more effects they have on eye health and even good near vision.Could my Phone be affecting my eyes and vision?

What to do?

The most logical step would be to reduce screen time. Map out no-screen periods to enable the eye rest and reduce exposure to any damaging radiations/blue light. however, in cases where screen time is not negotiable, for instance if your job requires it of you, then our advice is this:

You must consult an Optometry doctor to have an eye assessment – this will reveal any unhealthy changes that may be found in your eye. This assessment will also reveal any problems with near vision and focusing, and then treatment plan can be proffered.

Finally, the eyes must always be protected whenever the digital device is to be used extensively. Computer glasses, protective eye wear are all available options that your Optometrist can provide for you.

Its a digital world now; stay safe – protect your eyes.
